Tips: Effective Advertising

In order for your website to work, you need to drive traffic (viewers) to it. You can do this by advertising your website through a number of different methods.

Standard print material

You can advertise your website using traditional methods such as printing your web address on your standard business cards, flyers and brochures etc.

Standard advertising channels

If you look in the Newspaper, listen to the Radio or watch TV, you will notice that a lot of businesses promote their websites here. But it's still important to know your demographic and use the appropriate channels for this.

Optimise your website for search engines

SEO. Search Engine Optimisation. This makes it easier for search engines like Google to find their way around your site. Exploiting the way the engine works by writing good content will get you a better ranking when someone searches for a term you've chosen. Being at the top of Google's list will bring a lot of traffic to your site, and that hopefully means success for you.

Web Marketing

This is a new area of expertise. Advertising through linking into new social technologies available on the internet for free, such as Facebook and Twitter. This will build a fanbase around your brand online, with people promoting and advocating for you, for free.

Email Campaigns

Send monthly newsletters (after people sign up! No one likes SPAM) out to your customers and leads. Let them know what you're up to, of the weekly specials, etc. Keep yourself fresh in mind for customers to come to you.

Viral Advertising

This is a rather scary technical term for those hilarious anecdotes one finds on the web in relation to sales. Things such as the Cadbury Gorilla, the Toyota 'bugger' ad. They get shared by millions of people all around the world. It generates a lot of intrigue into seeing what ever that ad was about, and will drive more traffic to your site.
